CARPINTERIA, Calif. - The Carpinteria Community Pool has reopened with a demand and quite the splash at a time when thousands of people on the Central Coast are seeking places to recreate during the COVID-19 conditions.

The popular pool at 5305 Carpinteria Ave. is allowing five swimmers per hour. They get 45 minutes in the water and then there is a break to allow them to leave and have a new set of swimmers come into the facility.

It's a ten-lane pool and swimmers will be in every other lane to allow for proper spacing.

The pool opened Monday and the slots are booking at a rapid pace. Those have to be secured exactly 24 hours in advance according to the design of the online reservation system.

The pool is open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Staff members ask the swimmers to come ready to swim with no changing on site or use of locker rooms. They also have to bring a sanitizer with them.

For those who swim regularly it is a challenge to get a slot but the Parks Department hopes in time the schedule will be able to accommodate the demand.

There is a $7. day fee and $45. for ten passes. There are discounts for seniors and youth swimmers.

In Santa Barbara, the famous Los Banos pool facility remains closed at this time, and the city has not announced a reopening.
