Santa Barbara County Fire called for hazmat in a hotel room Friday afternoon
SOLVANG, Calif. – Santa Barbara County Fire Department responded to a hazmat issue due to a 2-gallon mixture of pool chemicals at the Vinland Hotel in Solvang. An employee was transported to a local hospital and their status is currently unknown.
According to Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the source of the incident was a mixture of chlorine and muriatic acid which, when mixed, can create dangerous chlorine gas.
As of 5:32 p.m., Santa Barbara County Fire Department updated the status of the situation to stabilizing after the pool products were diluted and neutralized in the pool.

Responding hazmat personnel used the Hotel's pool to neutralize the dangerous mixture and monitored the pH levels as part of their observations on scene detail Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The call originally came into Santa Barbara County dispatch at 4:20 p.m.
The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.
