Tony Hawk shows off his vert tricks on final day of X Games in Ventura

VENTURA, Calif.-Fans got to see Tony Hawk warm up with the skateboarders he inspired before the Pacifico Skateboard Vert Best Trick competition on Sunday in Ventura.

It seems fitting that the music playing was Ventura Highway by America.

Hawk, 55, placed 9th, but still has the competitive spirit.

Danika Carver and her brother Caleb of Ojai had three days passes and front row seats.

Danika was impressed by the by the way Hawk brushed off falls.

"Like its kinda fun, like when they fall, its just like to see like how they handle it," said Danika who skateboards, too.

Caleb who is on a breask from college said it was too close to home, not to go see the X Games in person.

 "I watch it every year on TV, but it's the first time its been close enough that I'm like dang I can go for that," said Caleb.

On the final day the best of best competed.

Fans included lots of parents who brought their little ones who might compete one day in extreme sports of ordinary sports someday

Kevnie Olivares is expecting and brought her children who wanted to see Tony Hawk.

Her son Mason said, "I just liked people doing back flips and stuff."

Ventura shined in the spotlight and local business enjoyed a boost.

"We had gold medal winners here Friday night. We've had celebrities in all weekend. It's been like a music festival at Tony's with the x games and it's just been great," said Tony's Pizzaria owner Bruce Barrios.

Trains helped keep traffic to a minimum.

Event staff seem hopeful it will come back to the fairgrounds again.

"Oh I hope we're coming back. I mean all the athletes seem stoked, they're really excited to be here. Everybody's having a great time. Yeah i think we're gonna come back for sure."

Now, that’s something fans can cheer about.
