GUADALUPE, Calif. --The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition is teaching nearly 300 second and third graders at Mary Buren Elementary School to ride a bike.

The program is funded by the Audacious Foundation in an effort to give kids more recreational opportunities.

“The program has brought a different perspective to my students in terms of not just focusing on the academics, but also focusing on the other pleasures of life which is the non-academics," said school principal Maria Gonzalez.

“Every child should learn how to ride a bike safely. It's so good for them. It builds confidence, it gives them exercise, stay healthy," said Christine Bourgeois of the Bicycle Coalition.

During the Christmas season, the Audacious Foundation raffled 10 bikes to second and third graders at Mary Buren Elementary School.

The Santa Barbara Bicycle Coalition partners with other schools in the area to help kids ride safely.
