VENTURA, Calif. - The Ventura Police Department SCU Narcotics Unit conducted an enforcement in the downtown area of Ventura around 2 p.m. on Friday.

During the enforcement, detectives surveyed the 100 block of East Santa Clara Street with surveillance tools and identified individuals behaving in ways that are consistent with potential narcotics sales.

Detectives said they recognized one of the two individuals as habitual narcotic offender Whitney Byrd.

The detectives then alerted nearby Ventura Police patrol units who performed an enforcement stop on the individuals. Police detained both subjects and arrested them for narcotics-related offenses.

The subjects were identified as Robert Farrell, 41, of Ventura and Whitney Byrd, 30, of Ventura.

Farrell was arrested for possession of narcotics for sales and an outstanding warrant for narcotic sales. Byrd was arrested for an outstanding warrant for possession of narcotics. Both suspects were booked at the Ventura County Jail.

A search of the Ventura County Superior Court shows that Byrd and Farrell both have numerous prior arrests and convictions for drug-related crimes, including narcotics sales.
