SANTA MARIA, Calif. – The Santa Maria Police Department announced it will participate in National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, Oct. 28.

The department said that this day, put on by the Drug Enforcement Agency’s (DEA), is to help provide thousands of folks from across the country an opportunity to clean out their medicine cabinets and turn them in safely and anonymously.

"Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands," said SMPD. "That can be dangerous and often tragic."

This event will take place on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Santa Maria Police Department, located at 1111 W. Betteravia Road.

SMPD said for the week leading up to the event, check your medicine cabinets and bring in all your expired or unused prescriptions so we can dispose of it properly.
