One person died and three others transported after traffic collision on Highway 166 Monday
NIPOMO, Calif. – San Luis Obispo County Fire Department responded to a four-vehicle traffic collision on Highway 166 north of Twitchell Reservoir Monday afternoon. One person died and three others were medically transported for their injuries.
The woman who died has only been identified by California Highway Patrol as a 28-year-old from Victorville, California.
San Luis Obispo Communications Center received a call of a traffic collision on Highway 166 west of Tepusquet around 12:45 p.m. relay California Highway Patrol Santa Maria area.
According to California Highway Patrol (CHP), a 2017 Chevy Silverado traveling eastbound attempted to overtake traffic using the westbound lane when it collided head-on with a westbound 2003 Chevy Tahoe causing fatal injuries to the right front passenger of the Silverado.
A Toyota Corolla heading westbound behind the Tahoe collided with the two involved vehicles and a bike on top of the Corolla detached and collided with an eastbound 2023 Nissan Titan detail CHP.
CHP reported major injuries for the drivers of the Silverado and the Tahoe and minor injuries for the driver of the Corolla.
Two air ambulance helicopters were requested as first responders from both San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara responded detail San Luis Obispo County Fire Department.
The drivers of the Silverado, the Tahoe, and the Corolla were all transported by ambulance or helicopter to Marian Medical Center or Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
According to San Luis Obispo County Fire Department, multiple people were transported by ground and air medical transports to area hospitals as part of the response.
