Tracking rain chances Monday, Extreme Heat Watch Tuesday

KEYT

We begin Monday with some monsoonal clouds and marine layer influence. Clouds will quickly clear and rain chances diminish. Highs rise a few degrees form the weekend and many areas hold into the 70s by the beaches. High temperatures rise into the 80s and 90s inland. A Heat Advisory is still in effect for interior areas through 10am Tuesday. Some areas will reach into the triple digits. A Beach Hazard Statement is in effect for all coastal areas through Wednesday. Surf could reach 7Ft and may cause coastal flooding in some areas. There is a small 10% chance of showers and isolated lightning from monsoonal storms this evening. Stay out of the waters for a few days and be weather aware!

The real heat begins Tuesday. An Extreme Heat Watch is in effect for most of the Central Coast starting in the morning. Some valley areas may reach 85-98 degree temperatures, while the interior could experience 95-105 degree readings! This will be a notable warming trend compared to last weeks heat. Check in on those at risk and utilize cooling shelters when possible. Overnight lows will drop into the 60s and low 70s for some so minimal cooling relief is expected. Abnormally high surf, rip currents and tides remains through the evening, avoid heading into the waters at the beaches and note that minor flooding may be an issue.

Peak Heating for most arrives Wednesday and Thursday. We begin to watch coastal waters calm and better beach conditions throughout the weekend. The heatwave will end Thursday and temperatures fall back to average by the weekend. Winds will be light for most.
