Christopher Baum convicted of sexually assaulting woman in Oxnard hotel room

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Christopher Baum of Fairlawn, Ohio was convicted of one felony count of forcible rape this week in connection with an assault inside an Oxnard hotel room in 2018.

On the evening of Oct. 14, 2018, Baum was staying with a woman in an Oxnard hotel room when the pair went to bed after an argument earlier the same day stated a press release Wednesday from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

According to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office, the woman fell asleep and awoke to find Baum on top of her.

Baum the pinned her arms down and raped her despite multiple pleas for him to stop detailed the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

After the assault, Baum fell asleep and the sexual assault survivor went to the restroom where she experienced significant pain and she later told friends what happened and reported the incident to local police explained the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

"This verdict affirms that survivors of sexual violence have the right to be heard, believed, and
protected, and that those who commit these crimes will be held accountable," said Deputy District Attorney Julia McAndrew who prosecuted the case. "It is my hope that this outcome brings the victim of this case a meaningful measure of justice."

Baum was remanded into custody following the verdict and remains in custody without bail shared the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

He is currently scheduled to be sentenced on May 29 of this year added the local prosecutor's office.
