LOMPOC, Calif. -- A man was arrested for vandalizing a firefighter's memorial on Monday evening near Lompoc.

Buellton CHP responded to a report of a man throwing bricks at drivers on Highway 246 at the Purisma Roundabout.

Officers arrived on scene and located a man near Cebada Canyon and Highway 246.

Officers saw bricks, firefighter boots and large pieces of glass in the roadway.

Officers went around the area to check for any victims near the roadway.

According to officers, no victims were reported.

The memorial belonged to Ventura County Fire Engineer Ryan Osler who lost his life on his way to battle the Canyon Fire back in 2016.

On September 21, Osler and a fellow firefighter were on their way to the Canyon Fire when their firewater tender truck lost control at the Purisma Road and Highway 246 roundabout in Lompoc.

The driver was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries but Osler died on scene due to his injuries.

Officers arrested the suspect for public intoxication and for vandalism of the memorial.

The vandalism is a felony while the intoxication arrest was a misdemeanor.
