Goleta man identified as pedestrian killed by train near Gaviota

GAVIOTA, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office has identified the pedestrian who was hit and killed by a train near Mariposa Reina over the weekend.

The sheriff's office says 67-year-old William Pattenaude of Goleta was killed when he was by a train Sunday afternoon.

It happened about a mile south of Mariposa Reina around 1:15 p.m.

Pattenaude was struck by the train and declared dead at the scene.

Train traffic was stalled for several hours due to the incident.

The circumstances leading up to the fatal train collision are under investigation.
