SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Santa Barbara police took a man into custody after he barricaded himself inside a room at a Santa Barbara homeless shelter Friday afternoon.

Police responded to the 800 block of Cacique Street around 3:30 p.m. at the PATH - Santa Barbara center.

A police spokesman said a man was barricaded in a room on the second floor of the building. Initial reports indicated the man might be armed with a gun, but police said they have not been able to confirm that.

No shots were fired and the incident was not treated as an active shooter situation.

Officers worked to clear out the building. At around 5 p.m., the man was taken into custody and the scene was being cleared.

Police searched the building for any sign of a firearm. Eventually they recovered what was described as a replica firearm.

Police cruisers and a SWAT vehicle were called into the area. A portion of Cacique Street was shut down during the law enforcement operation.
