Cliffs near Shell Beach damaged due to high waves and wind

SHELL BEACH, Calif.- Areas by the cliff are blocked off for people's safety including several parking spots.

There are also signs of greater erosion at the cliff. One local said the waves this week have been some of the highest they have ever seen.

Others say they've noticed a cliffside bench that is at risk of falling as the cracks behind it keep expanding everyday.

"As locals living here for many, many years. It's nice to have beaches like this that are more private. Without all the tourists around that, you can go relax, but it's too dangerous. The stairs are closed now. You used to go down there and relax and have your family down there or whatever, but now the stairs have been closed for some time now," said Pismo Beach resident Diane Schiesl.

A cliffside bench is now at risk of falling.

“We keep driving by checking because that bench is still sitting there. And it's just a matter of time because you can see the cracks. The cracks that are there now were literally inches and there was only one or two cracks. But now they're massive and you can see the gap there on the side of the hill," said Diane Schiesl.
