The health department said those who were infected with coronavirus will not be housed at Camp Roberts.

This comes just a day after San Luis Obispo County officials were warned it could happen.

Officals said yesterday those passengers who tested positive for coronavirus but no longer require hospitalization at Travis Air Force Base could be sent to Bamp Roberts for the remainder of their isolation period.

Penny Borenstein with the the health department said her office was prepared.

“That has since been rolled back. I think other arrangements have been made,” Borenstein said.
Borenstein said the health department wasn’t given a reason for why Camp Roberts wouldn’t be used as a housing resource

The health department used this as an opportunity to prepare with other partners.

“We worked very diligently with state and local partners in the healthcare sector and helped us be prepared for the possibility of us having by patients with coronavirus perhaps some of them meeting our local hospitals,” Borenstein said.

Borenstein said the health department is ready to work with federal and state partners if Camp Roberts becomes a housing resource in the future.

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Camp Roberts is no longer being considered as a location to house returning travelers who may or may not be infected with the Coronavirus.

The Federal Government notified the County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department Sunday night about the decision.

Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez announced over the weekend that Camp Roberts was under consideration to house the individuals returning to the United States from China who were exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus.

Those affected are currently being held at Travis Air Force Base.

County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said “We remain prepared to work with federal and state partners should future decisions turn back to Camp Roberts as a resource.”

Borenstein expressed her appreciation to local hospitals, paramedics and SLO County personnel for their "prompt and professional response."

Camp Roberts is California National Guard post that resides on the shared county line between Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties.
