Coronavirus quarantine possibly relocating to Camp Roberts
SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez announced that there may be a group of individuals returning to the United States from China who are exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus.
This group will reportedly be moved from Travis Air Force Base to Camp Roberts, a California National Guard post that resides on the shared county line between Monterey and San Luis Obispo counties.
The San Luis Obispo County Public Health Department said there is no certainty at this time that the passengers with coronavirus from the Diamond Princess cruise ship will be arriving at Camp Roberts.
SLO County officials, however, are being made aware that passengers who test positive for the virus but no longer require hospitalization may be sent to Camp Roberts for the remainder of their isolation period.
NewsChannel 12 has been in contact with SLO County Supervisor Lynn Compton who has confirmed this may be taking place.
“We understand that a federal team will provide the staffing, food, and medical care at Camp Roberts,” said County of San Luis Obispo Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “The County of San Luis Obispo Public Health Department is working to ensure that we protect the health and well-being of San Luis Obispo County residents.”
There are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus in San Luis Obispo County. It is unclear when the group would be scheduled to arrive.
