CHP Patrol Car Involved in Oxnard Traffic Collision

Three people suffered minor injuries after police say an SUV collided with a California Highway Patrol vehicle Thursday afternoon.

Oxnard police said that shortly after 5 p.m., CHP Officer Kenneth Lagree III was traveling southbound on Rice Avenue with activated lights and siren while responding to an emergency.

When the officer reached the intersection at Camino del Sol, a white Chevrolet Traverse SUV traveling eastbound, driven by Oxnard resident Maria De la Luz, 49, crashed into the CHP vehicle, according to Oxnard police.

Police said that the force of the impact caused the airbags to deploy in both cars.

The collision was captured on the CHP patrol vehicle’s forward facing camera system.

De la Luz suffered minor injuries, and was transported to St. John’s Regional Medical Center for treatment. Her passenger, 19-year-old Tarrant Ragis, also suffered minor injuries, but was treated and released from the scene.

Officer Lagree was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The collision is under investigation.
