Julefest returns to Solvang with a modified format

SOLVANG, Calif. -- Julefest is set to return to Solvang for the holidays.

The event is set to begin on November 27 and will end on January 1.

The months long celebration will be packed with lights, shopping, food and holiday cheer.

“It’s just a time for everybody to come together. I love the parade, I love all the open houses and just walking through the streets at night that are all lit up and decorated is very festive," said Kathryn Krebs of Toccata.

This year the festivities will include candlelight tours of Solvang and the tree lighting ceremony on December 3.

There will also be the annual Julefest Parade on December 4.

“Very happy to be able to once again have the Julefest parade. The tree lighting ceremony. The dancers as usual the parade which is a great community event coming back out," said Solvang City Manager Xenia Bradford.

Many residents are excited about the holiday celebrations returning after it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I just miss the comradery with our folks and people who come to visit. But when you come to support merchants and just enjoy what they have to offer," said Solvang resident Rosie Talmadge.

Local businesses like Elna's Dress Shop are excited to get returning business ahead of the holidays.

“We have a lot of parents and grandparents that like to have their children dressed in Danish costumes because they’re festive," said Sue Manning from Elna's Dress Shop.
