Orcutt holds 10th annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony
ORCUTT, Calif.-
The Old Town Orcutt 10th annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony took place on Friday night.
“Three, two, one…” the Orcutt community cheered as the Old Town Orcutt Christmas tree lite up the sky. The event had every thing from pint size carolers to a large Christmas chipmunk.
“I think it just gets everyone in the X-mass spirit. It brings the community together. And I feel happy to be apart off it,” said Orcutt resident Diana Estorega.
The annual tree lighting started as a small event but has now grown into a community staple.
“Right now we are up to probably 300 to 400 people. We stared 10 years ago with maybe 30 or 40,” explained Steve Strachan, the events organizer.
The ceremony is combined with the Old Town Orcutt Stroll event put on by the Orcutt Merchant Association. Local business stay open late to welcome residents and promote business.
“It's just such a small community, it brings a lot of us together a lot of us actually live here,” said Strachan.
Many local businesses gifted guest with Christmas snacks like cookies and hot chocolate.
“I'm the fifth generation to live here in Orcutt and it has just progressed every year into a more community based situation,” said Orcutt resident Kori Gonzales.
The Orcutt Lyons Club held a craft fair for neighbors to buy Christmas nicknacks.
“It helps the community come together and helps support the Lyons club,” said Lyons Club vendor Robin Bender.
Some proceeds from the craft fair go to the Lyons Club.
“And so I sell tables to the crafters. They sell all their items. And the money from the tables I sell go to the Orcutt Lyons Club,” said the Orcutt Lyons Club representation Sheri Hughes.
