More heat on the way. Sunday Aug 23rd forecast

Temperatures have cooled slightly over the past day or two, but more heat is on the way. Building high pressure is drifting in from the east and that is how we get our Summer time heat waves. Heat Advisories are in place for all areas and even Heat Warnings for interior locations near Cuyama. The warnings and advisories could last close to the middle of next week. For Sunday, look for more or less a repeat of what we have seen today with a very shallow coastal marine layer and warmer than normal temperatures, especially inland. Highs will be in the 70's for our local beaches with even a few 80's possible depending on how the sea breeze behaves. Inland areas will be in the upper 80's and 90's with a low one hundred possible for some.

Looking ahead, August will continue to live up to its reputation as more very warm and hot temperatures hold through at least the middle of the new work and school week. Advisories and warnings should drop off by mid week and hopefully a decent sea breeze brings in cooler weather for inland areas and not just the coast. However, most of our computer forecast models see temperatures staying about 5 degrees or more above normal which means that the onshore flow will continue to be pretty weak. We will also need to keep a very close eye on the Monsoon flow as it pushes up sub tropical moisture. We all also are seeing a good deal of activity of tropical storm and hurricane potential off the coast of Mexico. Most of the systems should stay well out of our direct weather window, but increase in surf might be news worthy in early September. With our very warm ocean temperatures, theses systems will have plenty of energy to push farther north than normal.
