Lompoc man dies after motorcycle crash near West Ocean and Bailey Avenue Tuesday afternoon
LOMPOC, Calif. – A 53-year-old Lompoc man is dead after the motorcycle he was riding crashed Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of West Ocean and Bailey Avenue.
On Feb. 25, around 4:08 p.m., first responders were called to the scene of an accident between a motorcyclist and a Toyota Tundra stated a press release from the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Wednesday.
According to the CHP, the driver of a 2023 Toyota Tundra was at a complete stop at the stop sign on South Bailey Avenue at the intersection with West Ocean Avenue while a 2002 Honda VTX1800 motorcycle was eastbound on West Ocean Avenue approaching the intersection.
For reasons still under investigation, the 83-year-old driver of the Tundra crossed into the intersection and directly into the path of the motorcycle when both vehicles collided detailed the CHP.
The male motorcycle driver, only identified as a 53-year-old Lompoc resident, was pronounced dead at scene and the lone female driver in the involved pickup truck was uninjured shared the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.
The driver of the Tundra stopped her vehicle, called 911, and remained at the scene after the collision noted the CHP.
West Ocean Avenue was closed temporarily in both directions between Floradale Avenue and V Street for about one hour and 40 minutes for an on-scene portion of the CHP investigation added the CHP.
According to the CHP, the weather at the time of the collision was clear, windy, and dry with light traffic in the area.
The investigation into the fatal incident remains under investigation and the identity of the deceased is pending notification of his next of kin shared the CHP.
