Vandenberg Space Force Base Fire Department schedules training fires June 15 through June 30

VANDENBERG SPACE FORCE BASE, Calif. – Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) Fire Department will be conducting prescribed burns on base starting Jun. 15 and continuing through Jun. 30.

The approximately five to ten acres of planned fires will happen near the intersection of Watt Road and 13th Street in the North Base area of VSFB.

Numerous small ignitions will be made in the area and used to train firefighters and dozer operators in combating wildfires in a live scenario as well as limit the spread of wildfires in the future.

These planned burns are subject to change due to weather conditions and the input of the Santa Barbara County Air Pollution Control District including the use of a portable air monitor.
