CHP Urges Drivers to Use Extra Caution When Driving on Highway 154
SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – California Highway Patrol officers urge drivers to use extra caution when driving along State Route 154.
“One lapse of judgement or someone making a an error in driving could lead to a very very serious collision occurring,” says Sgt. Donald Clotworthy with the CHP.
In a joint press conference with officers from Buellton and Santa Barbara officials reminded residents not to text and drive order behind the wheel of they’re too tired.
“All of us here today have come together with one common goal and that is to save lives,” said Lt. Commander Kurt Kruse.
Officials say Highway 154 drivers are a mix of locals and tourists, some who may not be familiar with the area.
For Marion Shine, she is traveling up north from Los Angeles and this is her first time on the road.
“It’s very windy and some people are really on your tail because maybe they live here and know the road,” she says.
For tourists like Adam Watson and his girlfriend they too are unfamiliar with the area, “especially in those windy bits, so eyes on the road.”
Resident Mary Beth Kerr, who live along Highway 154, she says she’s seen too many accidents happen.
“There is really kind of a scary trend there’s been more accidents, people really making bad driving choices,” she says.
The CHP says they will have extra officers patrolling the area for the 4th of July weekend.
They say their goal is to not only stop drivers who aren’t being safe but educate them on taking it slow along Highway 154.
