Santa Barbara man pleads guilty to vehicular manslaughter while under the influence

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. -- A Santa Barbara man pled guilty to multiple charges on Thursday.

Santa Barbara County District Attorney Joyce Dudley announced that Eric Mauricio Ramirez Aguilar, 40, from Santa Barbara pled guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, driving while under the influence causing great bodily injury and fleeing the scene of an accident that resulted in death.

The crash killed two, Mary Jane Corral and her husband Adolfo Corral, who were walking their dog on Cathedral Oaks Road.

The Corrals' leave behind their four children.

On February 9, 2020, Ramirez Aguilar swerved off the road while driving his Nissan sedan, struck and killed the couple at around 5:20 p.m. Ramirez Aguilar then fled the scene.

His sentencing is set for February 18, 2021 in Department 6.

The Honorable Judge Pauline Maxwell will be giving sentencing.

The DA's Office says based on his guilty pleas to all the alleged counts, Ramirez Aguilar could face up to a maximum of 17 years and 8 months in state prison.
