New beachfront hotel opens in Pismo Beach

The newest hotel in Pismo Beach is now open for business.

Vespera on Ocean held a grand opening celebration Wednesday afternoon.

It comes following a soft opening earlier in the month on Oct. 11.

“The hotel is completely open,” said Sandy Wirick, Director of Sales & Marketing. “All of our guest rooms are ready to go, and we’re ready to welcome the public to the restaurant and bar.”

The beachfront property is the latest hotel to open in the city, joining the nearby Inn at the Pier, which debuted in 2017.

The three-story hotel is located along the city’s famous boardwalk, and is next to the Pismo Pier.

“It’s the piece de resistance,” said Wirick. “It’s really what makes it special. There really isn’t anything quite like it in Pismo Beach, at least not of this caliber and so being able to have this location, just steps from the sand, being able to have that access to the beach through our bridge to the boardwalk and the design of the hotel in the U-shape, it allows for the majority of our rooms to have those ocean views, it just makes for a great location.”

The hotel is part of Marriott International’s “Autograph Collection,” making it the first branded property in Pismo Beach.

“Because we’re the only branded hotel in Pismo Beach, we’ll be able to welcome Marriott Ambassador and Titanium Bonvoy members,” said Wirick. “Those Bonvoy members will be redeeming their points here and those are folks that didn’t have an option in Pismo Beach before and now they’ll be able to do that.”

Even though the hotel is sure to attract travelers from around the world, management is also hoping to appeal to visitors from around the Central Coast.

“It really provides a place where locals can come and be able to enjoy in a beach in a different way in a luxury setting that they haven’t been able to experience before and that includes being able to come and enjoy a wonder dinner at Somerset Grill or an ice cold beverage at our outdoor bar,” said Wirick.

The hotel has 124 rooms, including seven luxury suites.

It also features a number of amenities, such as an expansive pool deck overlooking the beach, poolside dining and cocktails, 2,000 square foot outdoor lawn event area and 1,900 square foot ballroom.

Vespera on Ocean also includes a full-service restaurant, Somerset Grill, that is open to the public.

“It features hyper-local food and local wine selections and we’re proud of our local heritage,” said Wirick.

Wirick added the hotel has created about 120 new jobs.

“Most of our employees are hired from here in Pismo Beach,” said Wirick. “A lot of them are born and bred here.”

As the hotel was being constructed, many worried about the impact it would have on parking in the busy downtown area. However, the hotel includes an underground parking structure that has 160 parking spots.

“We have enough to accommodate our in-room guests, as well as our dining guests,” said Wirick. “Parking in the area can be kind of tough, we understand that, so we’re very conscious about making sure that we can accommodate everyone in the best way that we can. That was part of our permitting process through the city was making sure we had enough parking spaces for our employees and all of our guests.”
