The curtain rises at SBCC’s Garvin Theatre for “Guys and Dolls”
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - "Guys and Dolls" takes center stage Friday at Santa Barbara City College's Garvin Theatre for its official opening night.
The musical, romantic comedy was a huge Broadway hit back in the 1950s and is based on a story by Damon Runyon. Frank Loesser composed the music and lyrics.
"Guys and Dolls" is the first show of SBCC's 2023-24 theatre season.
The storyline puts the spotlight on Manhattan's underground crime scene milieu of gamblers, gangsters, showgirls and, the like.
Things quickly take a turn when a straight-laced missionary catches the eye of a high-rolling gambler, forced, by a bet, to take a woman to Cuba.
Leads are performed by Nick Ehlen as Sky Masterson, NewsChannel's Chief Forecaster, Anikka Abbott, as Sarah Brown. Supporting leads, Felicia Hall as Adelaide and, Raymond Wallenthin as Nathan Detroit.
Director, Katie Laris, is also an associate professor of acting for The Theatre Arts Department at SBCC.
