Get ready for more heat, Monday forecast July 10th

Despite the usual routine of morning fog and cool temperatures, sunshine and mild to warm temperatures were enjoyed region wide. As we close the weekend out, only one weather alert is in place and that is for wind along the Gaviota to Point Conception coast area. Gusts from the northwest could exceed 35 mph, especially below passes and canyons. The advisory will last until early Monday when the wind should die down. Patchy fog and cool overnight lows will be widespread for coastal areas with mostly clear skies inland. Look for highs on Monday to range from the 60's and 70's near the coast to the 80's and 90's farther inland.

Looking ahead, by early in the new work week will likely see a gradual warming trend and another potentially significant heat wave across a good chunk of the West. Portions of interior California have already issued Heat Watches and that will expand over the next few days as we get closer to the middle and second half of next week. Triple digits will be widespread and even some places could exceed the 110 degree threshold. The heat wave will likely last for much of next week and in to next weekend. The good news is that it will be a classic Summer heat wave and that means relief will be found along the coast as the marine layer should linger despite the heat inducing strong high pressure sitting inland.  We will monitor closely and update any and all changes to the forecast with regard to this next bout of heat. For now, maybe plan a beach day or two if possible and or get the air conditioner tuned up.
