SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. - The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney's Office and the Behavioral Health Department have teamed up to provide two support service events for community members impacted by the active shooting incident that took place in Nipomo in August.

On Friday, Aug. 21, just after 11 a.m., a shooter opened fire in the parking lot of a Vons gas station on the 500 block of West Tefft Street.

Shots were fired multiple times around the area before deputies and CHP officers arrived on scene. After one more exchange of gunshots, the shooter was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses to this shooting incident, their impacted loved ones and family members are encouraged by the county to attend these events and see if additional support would be of help to them.

During each event, advocates from the District Attorney’s Christopher G. Money Victim Witness Assistance Center, counselors from the San Luis Obispo County Behavioral Health Department and a representative with the California Victim Compensation Board will be on hand.

These professionals will offer counseling services, resource information and support to those affected and their family members.

The two events will take place at Nipomo High School, Olympic Hall, located at 525 North Thompson Avenue in Nipomo on the following dates:

  • Tuesday, Sept. 8 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Face coverings will be required as well as normal COVID-19 precautions.
