Brush fire breaks out between Ventura and Santa Paula

VENTURA, Calif. - Fire officials are battling a brushfire in the remote hills between the cities of Ventura and Santa Paula.

The Elizabeth Fire broke out sometime after 11 a.m. along Elizabeth Road and has burned about 250 acres as of 3:45pm. Two firefighters are being treated for what's being described as general illness/exhaustion. Daytime highs are in the mid-90's in that area. Containment is 20% and firefighting aircraft has been called in to help stop the fire.

As of 10 p.m., the fire burned 275 acres and was 70% contained.

80 firefighters are trying to put the flames out. No structures are threatened, however it's reportedly burning near Brokaw Nursery.

Ventura County Fire officials say there are high voltage power lines in the area.
