Tasty donation sends boxes of Ivan bars to Cottage Hospital staff
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The owner of a local nutrition bar company is sending cases of his "Ivan bar" to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital during the coronavirus crisis.
Ivan Pelly says it's different than receiving a meal donation or a box of treats.
His bar is a quick, healthy snack that a worker can eat on the spot, later or some now and some at another time.
Pelly says it's perfect for a doctor or nurse who is going from patient to patient.
Currently the company has a three box special for health care workers for the public to buy with no shipping fees.
Recently Pelly and his church collaborated on a matching donation.
"We brought a couple of hundred bars over there and they really liked them. And then a friend of mine heard that I have done that, and soshe did bought some and donated them," said Pelly. Then I donated some more and I had a friend from Mission City church contact me and said 'what can we do?' so I gave them a case at cost and I matched it."
He says they have probably sent a thousand bars to the hospital in the last couple of weeks.
He also says if someone wants to simply fund a donation specifically for this cause the company is ready for that direct delivery .
The Ivan bar was a creation just for his own needs after Pelly was disappointed in other nutritional snacks on the market. He tried several recipes at home and came up with on family and friends said, was so good, it should be created in a large volume and sold.
