One805 rocks for First Responders and Mental Health Care
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The ONE805 non-profit is set to raise urgent funds for first responders in need in one of their two large scale events of the year.
The show will feature Hootie and the Blowfish, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Alan Parsons, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Macy Gray.
It will take place in the historic Granada Theatre Saturday night March 8th.
The proceeds will benefit mental wellness for first responders in both in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. A portion of the MusicCares goes to help musicians impacted by the recent wildfires.
"It just ended up being like, a whole lot of people being willing to, to throw down and join in," said singer-songwriter Glen Phillips with Toad the Wet Sprocket.
The One805 non profit has responded since the 2018 Montecito mudflow disaster with impressive local shows to raise money for the mental wellness and extra gear for first responders who have dealt with many difficult and emotional front line challenges.
Responders from Santa Barbara County and surrounding communities were immediately sent to the Palisades and Alta Dena disaster zones and some had personal ties there.
It was an all out commitment and that makes this show even closer to home.
Kirsten Cavendish Weston-Smith the co-founder and CEO of One805 said "and we've got sheriffs down there, we've got police down there. We had a policeman lose his house down there. So it was very close to them."
Phillips said he felt the need to rally a local relief effort for the responders and musicians in line with the One805 organizers.
"These are people for whom, like, getting a house was a barely accessible dream. And to build a home studio was a barely accessible dream, and they've been wiped out. And so, along with getting to help the first responders, mental health care for them, getting to support some of the musicians who've been dehoused. "
The show will be at the historic Granada Theatre.
Along with Toad the Wet Sprocket it will feature Hootie and the Blowfish, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Alan Parsons, Macy Gray and there's a strong hint of special guests.
All said they would clear their schedules and join this cause. "This combination of artists is completely unique, and it's especially fun for us to be back with Hootie. We toured with them," said Phillips.
Many fire victims have been welcomed into the Santa Barbara and Montecito communities and they are expected to be in the audience.
The funds raised will be managed by the One805 board with fire captains telling the organizers "we will choose the areas that you should send it to, which is fantastic. That's what they're for, " said Cavendish Weston-Smith.
