SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - A well known local moving company is holding a relief drive in San Luis Obispo this weekend for L.A. fire victims.

Meathead Movers was started by the Steed brothers, Aaron and Evan, back in 1997 when they were both high school athletes, and it’s now one of the largest independent, family owned moving companies in California.

Over the last few days, as we have all been watching the devastation caused by the Los Angeles wildfires, the company is stepping up to provide relief to those suffering such catastrophic loss.

“Never seen anything like this. And I've been actually watching tons of interviews in footage the past few days. It's hard not to. But yeah, this looks like a war zone down there,” says Zach Devries, employee development manager for Meathead Movers.

Starting today and running through Sunday, you can stop by Meathead Movers' Mini Storage on south Higuera in SLO, or in Oxnard on Maulhardt Ave, to drop off donations.

“I like the way they do this, that you bring it here and they take it. When the Paradise Fire, we… I brought in a lot more stuff. This time we couldn't get the stuff because they only listed a short list. So if they list it more, I'll bring more,” says Bonnie Villalobos, who lives in Cambria.

In the face of such loss, even the smallest items such as clean bottled water or an unopened toothbrush can make a world of difference.

“We've had quite a few people already come in. We got the boxes halfway filled, and we've done these. Fill the trucks of multiple different, you know, natural disasters over the years,” says DeVries.

The best items to donate are hygiene items like soap, shampoo, unopened toothbrushes and toothpaste, diapers, baby wipes, and especially bottled water.

“I mean, thankful for all the firefighters and everybody helping out. You know, I was a firefighter back in 2019, so I know what these people are going through and I hope that everybody's safe and gets through it,” says Michael Mathiesen, operations manager at Meathead Movers.

Anyone is encouraged to donate during the hours of 9:00 am to 6:00pm for the next three days, and "fill those trucks!"
