Hot and dry air arrives Friday, staying warm into the weekend
Happy first day of summer! Thursday is summer solstice, meaning it is the longest day of the year with the sun setting just after 8pm. Skies were sunny, winds died down and temperatures were right near average. A significant warming trend begins Friday. Interior temperatures will see the most noticeable change in temperatures as highs climb into the 90s, while beach areas warm into the upper 60s to mid 70s. Some fog and cloud cover may return but will turn to sunny skies by the evening.
The real heat arrives Saturday. Temperatures spike into the triple digits for the interior and an Excessive Heat Watch begins early in the morning for the Santa Barbara and Ventura County Mountains. A Heat Advisory begins at 10am for interior portions of San Luis Obispo County. Its is important to stay out of the heat and hydrate! Coastal communities will have some marine layer and onshore flow influence. This will cause temperatures to warm 5-8 degrees in some areas.
Sunday will be a sunny by the evening and pleasant day for most of the beaches. A picture perfect day to head out to the Summer Solstice Parade! Grab that sunscreen and those sunglasses if you head out the door! High pressure lingers over the viewing area causing hot and dry conditions for the interior. The heat continues next week and south facing beaches will warm back into the middle 70s, a few degrees above average! Head to the beach and enjoy all the sunshine!
