Thursday evening forecast – Feb. 20th

Thursday we say another warm day with lots of sunshine in the afternoon.  Highs today ranged from the low 70s to upper 70s for most cities.

A low pressure system is forecast to move into the area, bringing more clouds for Friday. By Friday night, showers are expected over the area, persisting into Saturday. There is a chance of thunderstorms along with these showers. Dry weather returns Sunday into next week.

Friday morning will start out with abundant sunshine, but mid and high level clouds will be on the increase in the afternoon as a cutoff low pressure system approaches the coast.  South to southeast winds will also be on the increase across the mountains and interior valleys, where gusts will be in the 30 to 40 mph range. Because of the sunshine for the bulk of the day highs will be cooler than Thursday but still above average in the upper 60s to low 70s.

Late Friday showers are expected to make their first appearance, the chance of showers will last through late Saturday but because of the spotty nature amounts will be small.  Most cities will see just a couple hundredths of an inch to possibly 0.25".  There is a slight chance of thunderstorms which could bring brief heavy downpours and bump up some of the rainfall totals.  Temperatures on Saturday will cool several degrees falling below average primarily in the low 60s.

After the low exits, dry northwest flow will set up on Sunday and skies will clear out. Temperatures will rebound a few degrees but still remain a little below normal.

Early next week a ridge will begin to build back in. It will be a return to dry and sunny weather with temperatures above normal for next week.
