VENTURA, Calif. (KEYT) – A teen remains in critical condition after an early morning crash on Harbor Boulevard Sunday.

According to Ventura Police, officers arrived to find that a 19-year-old passenger had been ejected from the involved vehicle and had life threatening injuries at the scene.

He remains on life support in critical condition added the local law enforcement agency in a press release Wednesday.

A press statement earlier this week from the Ventura Police Department incorrectly stated that the 19-year-old passenger had died as a result of the collision.

The 19-year-old driver of the vehicle was still seated inside with significant injuries and both teens were transported from the scene to Ventura County Medical Center added the Ventura Police Department.

"The Ventura Police Department appreciates the public's understanding as this correction is made," stated the police agency in a press statement Wednesday. "The Ventura Police Department sincerely apologizes to the family and loved ones for this error and for the additional pain and distress it caused during an already difficult time."

A preliminary investigation indicated the car was southbound on Harbor Boulevard, south of Beachmont Street, at a high rate of speed before losing control and striking the center median, causing a rollover, according to the Ventura Police Department.

The investigation remains ongoing and those with more information are asked to contact the Ventura Police Department's Traffic investigator Office Virs at 805-339-4767.
