Gregory Lide of Ventura Charged With the Murder of Brittney Stark Tuesday

VENTURA COUNTY, Calif. (KEYT) – Local prosecutors announced Tuesday that Gregory Lide of Ventura has been charged with the murder of 34-year-old Brittney Stark after she died form a gunshot wound earlier this month.

Lide is also facing two other felony charges, one for being a felon in possession of a firearm and the other for possession of a controlled substance with a firearm as well as the special allegation that the 52-year-old has a prior strike offense stated a press release Tuesday from the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

In the early morning hours of July 19, Lide is accused of shooting Stark as she left his Ventura residence and walked towards her vehicle parked outside detailed the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Around 3:24 a.m., a Ventura Police officer found the injured woman lying in the street next to her car with a single gunshot wound and she was transported from the scene to the hospital noted the local prosecutor's office.

The 34-year-old was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital added the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.

Lide was "quickly identified" as a suspect in the homicide shared the Ventura County District Attorney's Office and he was arrested in connection with the murder.

According to local prosecutors, Lide made his first appearance in court today and his arraignment has been continued to July 24.

He remains in custody without bail added the Ventura County District Attorney's Office.
