Owen Beninga helps UCSB get a point in Bakersfield

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) -

UCSB 0, Bakersfield 0: Owen Beninga made a pair of crucial saves among his four total stops to earn an 11th career clean sheet and fourth this season, while the Gauchos (5-3-4; 1-0-2) extended their streak of Big West matches without a loss to 12, two shy of the school record.

"It's always a challenge to get results on the road in The Big West," UCSB head coach Tim Vom Steeg said. "Tonight was no different. The disappointment for me is not the result, but the way we played. We simply had too many players not play to their ability, and consequently we were not good enough to win the game."

UCSB hosts rival Cal Poly on Saturday at 7 p.m.

Cal Poly 1, San Diego State 1: Junior forward Finn Linas produced his third goal of the season – a 23rd-minute equalizer – and sophomore goalkeeper Mathew Guerra chalked up two saves for the Mustangs (4-3-5; 0-1-2).

Cal Poly takes a Pac-12 break to renew the Blue-Green rivalry at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. on ESPN+. The Mustangs won this year’s derby opener at home, 2-1 (Sept. 25), through goals from Charlie Hogan and Devin Bening.
