Flag Football wrap-up: Dons rally to beat Royals; DP wins home opener

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (KEYT) -

Santa Barbara 13, San Marcos 6: The Santa Barbara Dons staged a second half rally to finally beat San Marcos again in flag football.

Laila Hernandez threw a pair of touchdown passes after halftime to give the Dons their first win over San Marcos since 2023 when flag football became a high school sport.

The Royals scored the lone touchdown of the first half when Victoria Aldana fired a strike downfield to freshman Bella Bazylewicz who got behind the defense for a 57-yard touchdown. The point after was no good and San Marcos was up 6-0 at half.

The Dons grabbed a 7-6 lead midway through the third quarter when Hernandez found fellow senior Shea Gannon for a touchdown on 4th down. Sophia Olmedo caught the one-point conversion for the lead.

Santa Barbara extended their advantage to seven points early in the fourth quarter when Alexander Arnold caught a tipped pass in the end zone for an 18-yard touchdown.

Santa Barbara improves to 6-1 on the season while the Royals drop to 8-3.

Dos Pueblos 46, Pacifica 0: After playing their first 11 games away from Goleta, the Chargers finally had their home opener. It was home sweet home for DP who recorded their second shutout of the week.

Ruby Streatfeild and Ava Taiji each threw two touchdown passes in the lopsided win. Senior Brooklyn Hedricks had 3 interceptions including a pick-6. Hazel Burgess started the scoring with a long punt return for a touchdown in the first quarter.

Dos Pueblos is now 10-2 on the season.
