Teenager injured in Fourth of July crash dies from injuries
SANTA MARIA, Calif. – Fidel Lopez, a 15-year-old injured in a traffic accident on Jul. 4, died from his injuries while receiving treatment at Marian Medical Center on Saturday.
According to Santa Maria Police Department (SMPD), Fidel Lopez was a passenger in a vehicle struck at the intersection of Donovan Road and Pepperwood Place on Jul. 4. around 5:30 a.m. while heading to work.
Lopez was transported with critical injuries to Marian Medical Center where he eventually died on Saturday, Jul. 8.
Santa Maria Police ask that anyone with information about the incident, including witnesses or people with camera video of the area at the time, contact SMPD Officer Rhoads at 805-928-3781 ext. 1355.
A GoFundMe page has been created to cover funeral expenses for the teenager who had only arrived in Santa Maria from Oaxaca, Mexico a few months ago.
According to SMPD, this is the fifth fatal traffic accident in Santa Maria this year. Police ask that the public do all they can to ensure the safety of local roads by driving defensively, wearing their seat belts, and obeying all traffic signals and signs.
