Structure fire in Montecito on Thursday caused by an electrical issue
MONTECITO, Calif. - On Thursday, firefighters knocked down a residential fire in the 200 block of Dawlish Place that was caused by an electrical issue.
While no people were home during Thursday's fire, firefighters discovered the family's cat had sadly died due to exposure to smoke and heat during the incident shared the Montecito Fire Protection District.
A preliminary investigation determined the cause to have been "an electrical issue" and the entire home except the garage suffered damage explained the Montecito Fire Protection District.
Around 6:01 p.m., first responders were called to the 200 block of Dawlish Avenue when neighbors noticed smoke and called 911 stated the Montecito Fire Protection District in a press release about the fire on Friday.
California Highway Patrol officers and Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies closed both Dawlish and Chelham Roads as a precautionary measure and fire crews from Montecito Fire Protection District, Carpinteria-Summerland Fire Protection District, and Santa Barbara City Fire Department alongside AMR responded to the scene detailed Montecito Fire Protection District.
According to the Montecito Fire Protection District, firefighters searched the interior for anybody trapped inside before ventilating the roof of the home and successfully knocking the fire down within 20 minutes of their arrival.
