Elings Park’s Las Positas Tennis Center reopens following $2.7 million renovation

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – After a 16-month, $2.7 million renovation, the Las Positas Tennis Center has fully reopened.
The facility, which has been managed by Elings Park since 2011, now boasts multiple improvements including a new parking lot, new metal gateway, and accessibility improvements.
Additional improvements include new LED lighting on all six courts, renovated stadium-style viewing areas, and upgraded pathways.
Funding was made possible by donations to the Elings Park Infrastructure Campaign (EPIC) which has funded an additional $4.8 million in park improvements since 2020 with even more improvements still in the works at the largest privately funded public park in the United States.
"We knew that this beloved tennis facility was in need of attention when Santa Barbara’s Parks &
Recreation Department asked Eling Park [sic] to take over management a dozen years ago,” explained Elings Park Foundation Board Member and EPIC co-chair Bruce Giffin. "Though its 1970s design was iconic, the restrooms’ framing had started rotting away, and the asphalt parking lot had turned to gravel. This renovation is a testament to the patience and generosity of the Center’s members and local tennis lovers over the years."

Two restrooms and the tennis pros' office were built on the site of the original 1972 buildings and the Tennis Center's mechanical systems were all upgraded.
The final phase of renovations include landscaping with California-native plants and purchasing office equipment.
The Tennis Center is home to seven U.S. Tenic Association teams and eight teams that play in local inter-club tournaments.
Additionally, the Center runs a Tennis Camp for kids ages six to 14 with eight week-long sessions starting on Jun. 17. For more information, visit here.
