One805 gets ready to announce first responder grant recipients

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – One805 is excited about this years first responder grant recipients.

"Those programs that assist the 700+ firefighters in the operational area are enhanced and actually created with those funds," said fire chief David Neels of the Montecito Fire Department.

The donations will allow the continued funding of the mental wellness program along with other important programs.

“Those agencies overtime have requested assistance with specific equipment or items, or even mental health support for the organizations within the public safety agencies," said Neels.

One805’s advisory council came together to discuss the allocation of the funds.

"So the advisory board is made up of the 11 fire chiefs, police chiefs, and the sheriff Santa Barbara County we help assist One805 identify programs and equipment needs that specifically enhance our capability and services to our residence," said Neels.

The council then makes sure all funds raised by One805 are directed where they are most needed.

This year, One805 plans to keep some of the funds for unknown emergencies

"I think we’ve had a very challenging winter and so one of the things that we have focused on is that we can get back to our first responders as we keep cash so that if something happens we’re ready," said chairman and CEO Kirsten Cavendish of One805.

Many of the funds go toward equipment, mental health services and resources, and disaster preparedness.

To name just a few of the many ways in which these funds support local First Responders, including Santa Maria and Lompoc, the funds raised have supported first responder counseling programs, the purchase of FirePro300 Seek Thermals, dive equipment, and Search and Rescue equipment. A comprehensive list of all grants will be available following the event.

"My hope is that we continue support of first responders, because I really believe that they serve us, and we need to serve them," said Cavendish.

One805 will host its Annual Honorary Board Cocktail reception at the Montecito Club on March 13 to officially announce First Responder grant recipients.

A total of $484,400 will be distributed to this year's One805 grant recipients.
