Miramar Beach and Fernald Point Beach closures lifted following January sewage spill

Santa Barbara County Public Health Department

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif.– The Santa Barbara County Public Health Department has lifted the beach closures for Miramar Beach and Fernald Point Beach.

The beaches were closed on Jan. 17 due to a compromised sewage line that spilled over 5.5k gallons of sewage into the San Ysidro Creek on East Valley Lane in Montecito, which is within 2000 feet of the beaches.

Environmental Health Services have determined the ocean is now safe for recreational use.
