Carpinteria seeks artists for Latinx mural
CARPINTERIA, Calif.– A local art organization is looking for artists to create a Latinx-inspired mural for Carpinteria.
The Latinx Arts Project is looking for mural ideas that depict Latinx contributions in Carpinteria's past, present, and future.
Organizers say murals have been used throughout history to depict political statements and celebrations.
The President of the Latinx Art Project Leslia Westbrook says several cities on the central coast have Latinx-inspired murals and its time Carpinteria did too.
"We're 50% Latino in the town. Our schools are 70% and higher and so that needs to be also part of our picture and part of what we present not just to our own community, but to the tourists and our visitors."
The deadline to submit your mural ideas is Dec. 31. To apply click here.
The winning artist will receive a $2,500 prize. Businesses wishing to host the winning mural are encouraged to contact the Latinx Arts Project.
