Highway 154 reopens after second consecutive day of crash incidents

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Highway 154 reopened Wednesday afternoon after a multi-vehicle crash shut traffic down in both directions for several hours.

The crash happened near Painted Cave Road around 8:30 a.m.

California Highway Patrol and the Santa Barbara Fire Department responded to the area after a large commercial spool truck and a small sedan collided and rolled onto their sides.

A person suffered critical injuries and had to be extricated from their vehicle. Two more people were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The crash closed down both lanes of the highway throughout the morning. Traffic was being stopped at Foothill Road in Santa Barbara and to the north in the Santa Ynez Valley.

Traffic on Highway 154 reopened around 1:15 a.m.

The closure came as Highway 101 was impacted by a hard closure west of Goleta due to two fatal crashes. Highway 101 reopened around 11 a.m.

This is the second time in as many days that Highway 154 was closed due to a crash involving a large truck. On Tuesday, the roadway was closed for several hours after a semi overturned in the Windy Gap area of the winding highway pass.
