Santa Barbara city leaders working towards greater equality

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Santa Barbara city leaders are addressing public calls for equality. Santa Barbara has seen two weeks of protests, rallies and solidarity events in support of racial justice.

On Tuesday the Santa Barbara City Council will present recommendations addressing systemic racism. The resolution preparing to be presented would include:

  • A resolution condemning police brutality and declaring racism a public health crisis,
  • Greater transparency and accountability in the Santa Barbara Police Department,
  • Protection and preservation of black landmarks,
  • Additional funding for Santa Barbara Library’s programs related to Juneteenth, Black History Month and other cultural history educational events.

These recommendations are scheduled to be presented during Tuesday's City Council meeting. You can watch the meeting online here.
