MONTECITO, Calif. - An unoccupied vehicle was in the landing zone for a massive eucalyptus tree when it broke apart Saturday in Montecito.

The Honda SUV had significant damage to the front end, windshield and roof top from the startling scene on Butterfly Lane.

The tree covered a large part of the street and stretched out towards the Union Pacific railroad tracks. It's unknown if trains were delayed.

Similar trees in the same area have come down in recent years blocking Channel Drive a block away.

Had the tree broken off in another direction, a home on the closest property possibly could have been hit.

The area has been cordoned off by yellow tape.

This section of the street is a dead end and has very little traffic.
