Carpinteria to Present Its Budget Issues to Voters During Measure I Meeting

CARPINTERIA, Calif. (KEYT) - The city of Carpinteria is going to the voters next week with a specific measure to increase badly needed funding.

The city says it has a debt that includes necessary funding for several services such as parks, libraries, emergency response and addressing homelessness, along with a multi million dollar backlog of maintenance for streets.

Known as Measure I voters will consider a quarter-cent sales tax measure to raise the current tax to 9.25 percent.

If it passes essential items such as groceries and prescriptions would be exempt.

At the State of the City address in August the city spent time explaining the measure and its expected income of $700,000 dollars each year.

If it does not pass, the city may have to balance its budget with a change in service levels and staff.
