Mosby and Perez challenge Osborne in Lompoc Mayoral Race

LOMPOC, Calif. - James Mosby and Lydia Perez are running against current Mayor Jenelle Osborne this November.

Osborne first got elected to the city's council back in 2016 and then became mayor in 2018. Osborne said she is running for reelection because she wants to continue the work she began as mayor.

Mosby did run against Osborne in the last Mayoral election of 2022. This will be his third time running to unseat Osborne.

"As I see what's going wrong in this town it made me step up and get back into politics," said Mosby.

Newcomer Lydia Perez, who works for the People's Self-Help Housing, said she is running against the two veteran politicians to be voice for the Hispanic community.

"I wanted to run for mayor because I noticed that the Hispanic population is underrepresented here in Lompoc. There's no interpretation services," said Perez.

Osborne said the Lompoc Police Department's use of body cameras, new city fire engines, and a $6 million investment in city parks are some highlights during her tenure. Osborne said she wants to repair streets, build workforce housing, and hire more police officers if reelected.

Mosby said Dean Albro, Lompoc's City Manager, and Kevin Martin, Lompoc Police Chief, have done a great job in reducing crime in the city, but adds he would like to hire more Police Department positions and reduce utility rates.

Perez said she wants to address homelessness and boost economic development by helping small businesses and provide younger people in Lompoc more resources to find jobs.
