City of Goleta appeals Santa Barbara County’s cannabis permit near city’s line

GOLETA, Calif. — A commercial cannabis cultivation project got a permit to grow on 17 acres in unincorporated Santa Barbara County. Santa Barbara County issued the permit to the White Light Cannabis Cultivation Project on September 16. 

However, the City of Goleta submitted an appeal stating the property is too close to the city. The property is at 222 Winchester Canyon Road about half a mile from the city’s line.

In the appeal, the city stated their primary concern is related to hydrogen sulfide (H2S). They stated the permit only requires the monitoring of H2S rather than reducing or minimizing their emissions.
