Firefighters responding to vegetation fire on Highway 101 near State Street offramp

SANTA BARBARA COUNTY, Calif. – The Santa Barbara County Fire Department said it's responding to a vegetation fire on Highway 101 near the southbound State Street offramp with the assistance of Santa Barbara City Fire.

County Fire said the flames have spread to about 100 by 50 feet burning in brush and trees.

California Highway Patrol said traffic control is in progress around the area.

The call time for the fire was 9:07 p.m. Monday, according to County Fire.

Earlier in the day Caltrans was in the area clearing out a multi-person homeless camp. Many of the items are lining the sidewalk at the fire zone and some transients were walking in the area.

Santa Barbara Police have sent officers.

An AMR ambulance was called but it's unknown if there are any injuries.

No structures are in the immediate area of the fire, but the Caltrans yard and a gas station are nearby.

There was no significant wind.

Five engines are currently on the scene, and more information will be provided when updates come in.
